| Q: How do I turn on and open my IM (Instant Messenger)? |
|
| A: Click on the little figure ABOVE each user image. If a user is online, the figure will be green, otherwise it will be red. PLEASE NOTE: you cannot receive an instant message unless you have the IM system open, so many people open it when they come online. |
| |
| Q: How can I be sure other users can find my services? |
|
| A: Your services and skills should be listed in the "Interests" text box, which is part of your extended profile. Go to EDIT PROFILE, and there you will see (under Profile Sections), a link for EXTENDED PROFILE. Press that link and place your skills, services, etc. in the "Interests" text box. You can see my profile for an example, "Michael Erlewine". |
| |
| Q: Will other people see what I write in my profile? |
|
| A: Yes, everything except what you exclude, like your age or the year you were born. Since this is a social network or community, the point of the profile is to share information about yourself that you enter. |
| |
| Q: How do I change my password? |
|
| A: Go to the HOME tab, and select “Account Settings” from the menu on your left. You can change both your email address and enter and verify a new password, as well as other information. |
| |
| Q: How do I enter my profile photo? |
|
| A: On the left menu, select “Photo Album.” On the right side of the “Main album” section, select “Add Photos,” and press “Browse” to locate the file on your computer hard drive. Press the “Upload File” button. Then, mark the checkbox under the photo you wish to use as your profile image, and press the “Set As Main” button. |
| |
| Q: Where do I enter data like my personal interests, music, and film favorites, and so forth? |
|
| A: Go to the HOME tab, and select “Edit Profile.” Under “Profile Sections,” select “Extended Info.” Add or edit information, and save the results. |
| |
| Q: How do I create a special community? |
|
| A: Select the “Communities” tab, which is the fourth tab. Select “New Community,” which is on the right side of the screen. Fill out the form, with the name of the community, the general category, and a description. Press “Create”. |
| |
| Q: How can I invite my friends and family? |
|
| A: Select the “Invite” tab, and enter the email addresses and the message your want to sent. Press the “Send the Invitations” tab. |
| |
| Q. How do I use the “Search Tab?” |
|
| A: The search tab offers many search options. Fill in the blanks with words you or looking for or check the appropriate boxes, and press “Search.” |
| |
| Q: How do I make sure that other users can find out about my skills and services? |
|
| A: Edit your profile, and the “Extended Info.” There you have a text box called “Interests,” which is the ONLY one of the text boxes searched. The “About Me” box is for display only, and is NOT searched. So enter any information you want to be searchable in the “Interests: box. The “Favorite Music,” Favorite Movies,” and “Favorite Books” areas are also searhable. |

| Q: When I try to open up the IM (instant messaging) window to chat with another member, nothing happens. It does not open. |
|
| A: The IM system has been carefully designed and check to make sure it works with all major browsers, including Saraha, as shipped. However, if you have added third-party toolbars that take control of certain functions of the operating system, the IM may not work. The first thing to check is to see if these toolbars or the operating system itself is blocking pop-ups. The IM window is a pop-up, of course. Many systems allow you to tell the system to allow pop-ups from a particular site. You need to allow pop-ups from AstroTree.com. If that does not help, then remove the add-on toolbar, and the IM system will work. |
| |
| Q: How do I let another member into my Backstage photo album? |
|
| A: Backstage photo-album access is available through the IM chat window. On that chat window is a button that says “Send Backstage.” Pressing that button will allow the person you are chatting with to have access to backstage. |
| |
| Q: How do I ignore a member that I do not wish to chat with? |
|
| A: On your chat dialog box, is a button that says “Ignore.” Press that. Press it again to remove the “ignore.” When you have ignored a member, no messages will be received. |
| |
| Q: How to get a sound alert when someone has sent me a IM message? |
|
| A: On the IM panel (not the chat dialog window) is a Check Box marked “Sound Alerts,” which if checked will give you a sound alert. You can toggle it ON and OFF. |
| |
| Q: How do I use the IM chat? |
|
| A. There is a small image of a figure above each member’s photo or marked. For any member who is online, that small figure’s color will be green. Otherwise, it is red. If the figure is green, click on it to launch the IM chat window. |
